RACING RETURNS TO PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SATURDAY – FUND RAISER FOR INJURED SPONSOR!

(APRIL 27, 2010, PERRIS, CA)  After one week off, racing returns to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, May 1st, with a six-division race card and a fundraiser for one of the track’s longtime sponsors.  The PASSCAR Super Stocks (West Coast Street Stock Series), Street Stocks, Modifieds, Sport Mods, Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks and the CDCRA Dwarf Cars will supply the high speed racing action on the famous half-mile and inner quarter mile ovals.   Spectator gate will open at 5:00 PM and the first heat race will be at 5:30.

Saturday’s race will feature a fundraiser for Ted Smith who was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash last Wednesday.  Smith’s company, Pick-A-Part, is a long time track sponsor.  He was riding his motorcycle to Laughlin when a gust of wind blew him off his motorcycle and into a sandy embankment on the side of the road.  Smith, who also raced at The PAS in the old Cruiser class, suffered serious multiple injuries and broken bones (including a broken leg that was operated on Monday afternoon) and will be hospitalized for quite some time.

“This was very sad news,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said.  “Ted is not only a great friend and supporter of Perris Auto Speedway, but all of the local short tracks as well.  He is not only a friend of racing, but he is a personal friend, too.  He is an all around great guy who is always fun to be around.  He has supported everything we have done at The PAS and we want to show our support for him.  Ted is a very strong person and a fighter and reports have him doing better the past couple of days.  We are going to salute him at The PAS on Saturday and we look forward to seeing him back at the track when he recovers from his injuries.”

Saturday’s event will see the return to racing of popular PAS racer and microphone personality Ronnie Everhart.  At the season opener on March 13th, the throttle stuck on Everhart’s Street Stock as she went down the front straightaway.  Inevitably, she ran out of straightaway and slammed hard into the turn one wall.  The two-time PAS Sport Compact champion suffered a broken shoulder blade and was forced to sit out the second race of the season on April 10th.  In addition to racing, Everhart interviews racers and gives on track reports at all of the racing events at The PAS including the nights when she is racing.

Perris Auto Speedway is located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds (home of October’s Southern California Fair), approximately one hour east of Los Angeles and one hour North of San Diego. To get to the track, take the 215 freeway, exit on the Ramona Expressway and go three miles east to the fairgrounds.
