Title: Perris hosting final stock car race of 2009 this Saturday Post by Media on 11/16/09 at 7:31pm For Immediate Release PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY LAST STOCK RACE OF 2009 THIS SATURDAY (NOVEMBER 16, 2009, PERRIS, CA) This Saturday night, November 21st, Perris Auto Speedway will host its last Stock Race of the season on the Annual PASSCAR Champions Night. Making their final 2009 appearances will be the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Modifieds, Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks, Sport Compacts and the CDCRA Dwarf Cars. Heading into the event, all but one (Sport Compacts) of the PASSCAR division championships is up for grabs. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first heat race will be at 5:30. After this Saturday’s action, only the November 28th Glenn Howard Memorial for the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will remain on the track’s 2009 schedule. While only the Sport Compact division title has been decided, all popular Ken Searcy has to do is take the green flag in the main event to win his first ever PASSCAR Super Stock championship. The second half of the 2009 campaign has been a dream come true for the Nuevo resident and Saturday will supply the storybook finish. Up until his initial win at the Riverside County clay oval in July, Searcy had never won a main event at The PAS in 10 years of trying. After winning that main event, he reeled off three straight victories and was second in the last race on October 24th. The only driver with a mathematical chance of catching Searcy is defending champion Ed Perry of Carpinteria. With double points up for grabs, for Perry to win his second title, Searcy would have to miss the main event and Perry would have to win it. Second place would not be enough. However, the point may be a moot one. Perry was disqualified by PASSCAR officials for rough driving on October 3rd and did not show up for the last race on October 24th. In the Street Stock class, 2006 champion “Haulin’” Henry Wesolowski has a pretty firm grip on his second ever title. He leads Perris’ Jake Everhart by 41 points heading into Saturday’s finale. Mathematically, the top seven cars in the standings all have a shot at the crown, but it would be take a near miracle for veteran Wesolowski to lose his second track championship. Three drivers have a chance at claiming the 2009 PASSCAR Modified title, but like Wesolowski, Alan Updyke of Tustin, already has one hand on the champion’s trophy. With just Saturday’s race remaining, Updyke, who won the track championship in 2005 when it was sanctioned by IMCA, holds a 49-point advantage over Riverside veteran Larry Lord. Lord’s title aspirations suffered a devastating blow at the October 24th race when he flipped his car in the main event. Another Riverside veteran, Middy Boggio, is third in points 14 behind Lord. The tightest battle for a 2009 PASSCAR championship comes in the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks. Rosemond’s Gary Keaster holds a slender 12-point lead over Riverside’s Jeff Gillum heading into the final race of the season. Schyler Yarbrough of Perris is in third, 30 points off the top spot. The only championship already decided is in the Sport Compacts where racing grandmother Linda Denver has a 175 point advantage heading into Saturday’s finale. The CDCRA Dwarf Cars will round out Saturday’s program. Angel Figueroa won the first two races at The PAS in March and June while Kevin Drake took the win in August.
