I love the new Hobby Stock rules, especially the 3200 lb minimum weight rule! I guess I will have to cut down on the double cheeseburgers at McDonalds to keep the weight down!

Just a completely curious question. Why are mud plugs in the bead locks mandatory? Is it to keep the mud on the track?

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES
Post by NAIL IT WHOYA. on 10/22/09 at 5:39pm

just a guess...  Is it because when mud packs in the wheel it eventually will come flying out and possibly land in the stands?

CK    Is 24 lb. air pressure on the right side mandatory for bead lock wheels or for all wheels? Thanks for the rules now instead of much latter. There was a cast iron low rise Holley carb bolt pattern
intake made for a few years-has a 4 barrel plenum and 2 barrel runners. Fits up to a 650 Holley-any chance of using it? Holleys are cheaper and easier than Q-jets to race, I think.

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES
Post by Frazier15 on 10/23/09 at 8:02am

The rule is 25lbs. and it applies to the right side of the car only. (Any rim)

The rules specifically state-- "No Holley 4 barrel"

I'm pretty sure this is what Chris is going to tell you.

25 pounds on right side.

No Holley 4 barrel

4 barrel intake must be OEM. No hi-rise

HEY ck i have a ?? in your rules it says bead lock okay for right side is that right front and right rear you can run it??? I no here at bakers there only allowed to run beadlock on the right rear only im just curious on my???

Right side. Front or rear.

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES
Post by Frazier15 on 11/02/09 at 10:00am

At this point, it seems like the rule should read "Beadlocks ok"-- Most would only run it on the right side anyway. JMO

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES
Post by Frazier15 on 11/02/09 at 1:02pm

The only thing I like about allowing it anywhere is the fact that if I have a tire mounted to a beadlock, and thats that tire is my best looking option for where I need it- it would be nice to not be limited to where that tire can go. For example, I lose a left front in the heat, and I'm low on spares, I could stuff it up there for the main. -- or rf if thats all the rules allow.
Tire pressures shouldn't be as big of a deal @ 3200 lbs.

JMO

The way I read it guys is Beadlock or not you still have to run 25psi. on the right side. So presure shouldn't be a factor in weather someone runs beadlocks or not.

BODIES:
1. Must be mfg. stock for year model used. Fenders, doors and rear quarter panels may be interchanged with similar models as long as end result is Stock appearing. Any fabricated body part must be min.22-gauge steel or ALUMINUM

this will be interesting to see what this produces. people complain about how the SS look. hope it doesn't happen to the hobby class. why the alum.? can't be because it's colored already. colored alum. is like 40ga not 22.

Tim-- He has a "Stock appearing" clause at the top. He wants stock steel roofs with stock appearing bodies. We have been running fabricated bodies for a few years now- so nothing has changed looks-wise. Same look, different material. I believe he is trying to help us in the fact that he has dropped the minimum weight to 3200# and placed a max weight of 3600#.

I think his rule package is spot on for this class. It's where the class was already anyway. I have heard a rumor that an American stock class may be in the mix for 2011 or so- so that should help with the order of things.

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES
Post by OLD SCHOOL#6 on 11/10/09 at 9:14am

I kinda agree with Tim on this deal.  The rule for the SS class reads ---BODIES GUIDELINES:
1. Bodies should be semi stock appearing.

As you all have seen, there is nothing even close to "semi stock appearing" about the SS.  Not saying I dislike them, just saying they are a long way from  "semi stock appearing", some people even get them mixed up with the LM's.....................

what would a coil guy do in response from letting cameros run adjustable lowering blocks?

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES

Tim, you are right, the thickness of the steel shouldnt matter if we are allowing Aluminum. Doesnt make sense. I will change it.

I dont want semi stock appearing Hobby Stocks. I want STOCK APPEARING !!!

Fixed spring buckets allowed on rear of coil cars only.

this is from bako's rules. if leaf cars can run blocks then coil cars should get something also. jmo

If you have something dangling.... you should wear tighter underwear--LOL

I don't see on SMS rules where it allows "fixed spring buckets allowed on rear of coil cars only"-- did I miss it?

off set bushings for the rear?

Offset traling arm bushings look in a speedway catalog under rear suspension.

Title: Re: SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY 2010 HOBBY STOCK RULES
Post by hogracer3d on 11/13/09 at 2:24pm

You can also use them for more (or less) arm angle and pinion angle

wouldnt you get the same effect with the rear upper trailing arms withan off set hole?

Post by hogracer3d on 11/13/09 at 9:01pm

yea if its within the rules, the offset bushing is not readily noticable
