For Immediate Release

Hagar tops 1st Annual Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stock Nationals

Press Release by Jim Pluhar
Santa Maria, CA - October 17, 2009...The 1st Annual Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stock Nationals saw 34 cars show up at Santa Maria Speedway Saturday night to take their shot at the $600.00 winner's share of the purse. Papich Construction IMCA Modifieds brought 30 entries to vie for $1,000.00 first place money and 12 ladies were on hand for the MMI Factory Stock Powder Puff races.

Bakersfield's Jordan Hagar started twentieth in the 24-car Mini Stock field for the 50-lap Nationals "A" feature. Hagar worked his way through the field until he found himself engaged in a three-car battle with Nipomo drivers Korban Ensign and Justin Marsh for the lead. Hagar and Marsh traded the lead several times before Marsh rolled to a stop on the front chute, 4 laps from the checkers. With Marsh gone, Hagar needed only to hold off Ensign for the win. At the finish it was Hagar first and Ensign second, followed by Nathan Flud, of Bakersfield; Scooter Black, of Bullhead City, AZ; and, Robby Cervantes of Arroyo Grande. Ensign had won the 12-lap "B" main event earlier in the evening to move into the "A" main and 8-lap heat races were won by Marsh, Tina Wheeler, of Bakersfield; Taelor Janes, of Arroyo Grande; Jeremy Heroux, of Nipomo; and, Mike Pilatti of Ventura. Wheeler captured the 5-lap trophy dash.

Jason Papich, of Arroyo Grande, won his first Modified main event Saturday night, and it was a good one. Papich out-gunned 2009 SMS champ Chad Weber, of Arroyo Grande, and second in points Doug Thornton, of Santa Maria, for the victory. Santa Maria's Daylan Coffey and Watsonville's Todd Hermosillo were fourth and fifth. Coffey captured the 12-lap "B" feature event and 8-lap heat races went to Danny Lauer, of Santa Maria, and Bakersfield drivers Larry Hood, John Piker, and Robby Sawyer.

In Factory Stock Power Puff action, Lompoc's Lorinda Kearns took the checkers first in an 8-lap heat race and then in the 15-lap feature event. Second in the main was Amy Bannister, of Bakersfield, who also won a heat race. She was followed by Santa Maria's Colette Chambers, and Bakersfield's Amanda Forry and Ren Sawyer.
