Title: Why Have Elections Any Longer? Post by jr07 on 08/31/09 at 9:41am If groups like the Apollo Alliance and their member organizations are going to draft legislation while our elected representitives neglect to read it and rubber stamp it through congress, what's the point of holding elections any longer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4sOOTF4Lio&feature=related Sounds harmless enough. Who are these people and organizations? http://apolloalliance.org/about/board/ Who funds these people? http://apolloalliance.org/about/funders/ Who endorses these people? http://apolloalliance.org/about/endorsers/ What are their acheivements? http://apolloalliance.org/about/achievements/ They now are in control of 113.5 billion dollars of U.S. taxpayer money. Any Questions? |
Title: Re: Why Have Elections Any Longer? Post by dscEvents on 08/31/09 at 3:34pm Just how are they "in control of 133 billion dollars of taxpayer money"? Drafting language for legislation voted on by Congress and signed by the President doesn't mean they "control" anything. It's actually very common. If you think this is the first time a special interest group has drafted legislation that ended up in a bill, well.. you haven't been paying much attention for the past 30 years or so. Big industries have paid lobbyists for years to draft legislation favorable to their industry, then contributed millions of dollars to the politicians who vote them into a bill. Conservatives politicians have protected this system of "pay to play" for decades. Unfortunately, it's nothing new. But I would add that the list of supporters of this "Apollo Alliance" (I never heard of them until now) includes many conservative groups and businesses. Not sure what that means. dsc |

????????????????????????? You're kidding right? How much of that 113.5 billion do you think will ever see the light of day as far as actually going to promoting green jobs, green education and green infrastructure and not to promoting more progressive social reengineering programs and propaganda or more than likely just disappearing as fast as Obama's campaign promises. Title: Re: Why Have Elections Any Longer? Post by dscEvents on 09/01/09 at 9:54am I'm sorry jr07, I must have misunderstood your point. You don't have a problem with special interests writing legislation (a common practice). You just have a problem when it is done by liberal organizations. I get it now. |
Title: Re: Why Have Elections Any Longer? Post by jr07 on 09/01/09 at 5:41pm Dave, You not only missed the point. You missed the boat, the train, the bus, and the plane. I'll demonstrate the point in terms even you'll be able to understand, I hope......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6H63CD7uQA&NR=1 |

Title: Re: Why Have Elections Any Longer? Post by dscEvents on 09/01/09 at 10:04pm Cool cartoon. Brought back memories of the old school animation. Yes, Communism is bad. But I knew that already. But the cartoon was entertaining. If just to see what was considered the American dream back then. What made it most interesting is how it touts so many American features that are not even remotely accurate in 2009. Especially the part bragging about American wages and income. Back in 1948 the average worker made a decent living and could buy a home and have a family on a single income. We were rightly proud of that... then. But of course that was before corporations moved their factories from America to somewhere with cheap labor and laid off all those American workers in order to make an extra few bucks for the executives. In 1948 the average executive made about 30 times more in wages than his workers. Today executives make 600 times more than what the worker makes. That is the biggest factor in the degradation of the American dream. It's all well and good to pine for the old days of moral living, but if we do, lets go back to the old pay structure that allowed an enormous middle-class to truly live the American Dream. That was, as the cartoon says, the real "secret to American prosperity". Just my opinion, but I'm sure you guys have some good insults ready. lol dsc |
Title: Re: Why Have Elections Any Longer? Post by jr07 on 09/02/09 at 7:54am N.A.F.T.A. Along with a democratic world federalist philosophy and agenda. Remember Gore pitchoing his a$$ off while Clinton had the pen ready to sign it into law? What happened to Obama's campaign promise to renegotiate NAFTA? I can't believe that the unions aren't holding his feet to the fire on this, or perhaps the stimulus package and takeover of the auto industry was a sufficient alternative to satisfy organized labor. The most important reason Obama needs national healthcare now is the UAW. Everyone knows that GM was in the business of providing healthcare to it's retirees more so than manufacturing automobiles. 5 billion dollars in annual healthcare costs for employees and retirees. Is it any wonder GM couldn't make a car anyone wanted to buy? Obama now owns the UAW (or perhaps they own him) and that 5 billion dollar annual cost. This is the #1 reason the Whitehouse and House Dems are desperately pushing so hard for healthcare reform? They cannot afford to lose this one, and will do anything to get it done. |
