SThis thread can be used to place old photos so they can be archived and viewed by everyone. Maybe CCM can file some of them so they are around for a while and not get lost with time.

Anyway, I ran across these photos of an old good friend of my dad, Tony Valente (SP) this is where Gary Jacob would correct me. Anyway, he was a rice farmer from the Chico area. Now he's a realestate agent of all things. Anyway, this is the first year the Posse cars got underway 1981ish.

I spent a few hours w/ "JUNKYARD JIMMY" the other night scanning pics...and some old programs.

I LOVE the idea of having stuff posted here...BRING IT Guys, I'm not missing a one.

I think this was 1980 and probably the first year the open comp posse cars started to form. They would eventually lose the wings and run huge rear sideboards. I thought this was Tony Valente but the name on the roof says otherwise.

Sorry some of them are in such bad shape but in 1991 I was 7 so I didn't take very good care of them.

Jimmy that is Darrell Hood in what year? I was 4 years old and he signed it for me in 1992.

Jackie.... I think it was in 77. I think he won the champion ship that year

He did win the Chamionship the year of this photo but it was in 1979. That is what he told me when I showed it to him in 1992.
I was four years old.

I am not sure if it was dirt or asphalt. I was only four then but I think it was still asphalt then.

That's what I thought...'79 was the last year my dad ran over there w/ Dale Basher, Lin (Snow)Deines, Jim Deines, Tommy Gregory... and my first of 2 shots behind the wheel...driving the mechanics race when I was 16.

That car is stored in a trailor at this time. Has since been updated with a stock clip in 1988 and a new Zootis spec motor in 2002. Last raced in 1999 I think. The original body what is left of it is outside beside the shop.

I think they call them "central california sportsman" cars. From what I gathered, when I used to run my mod at Merced, back in the day they were pretty popular. The only place I've seen them race is at Merced.

Was a popular class at Watsonville,Merced & Antioch when I
was growing up. My Dad & Uncle raced sportman cars. Also
have pics of Irnie Irvan & Vic Irvin racing these cars. (Irnie
had a flat black Gremlin if I remember correctly.#10 owned
by Jack Mccoy - Tim Williamson drove it first)

So this is a recent photo of this car? It's pretty cool.

If you look close, it looks like its got the stock chrome door handles on it.

From what I've picked up,they raced these Sportsmans at Watsonville & Merced from the early 60's till 1981? Merced revived the Division about 8-years ago.
Ours in the photo,is a chopped 1969 Chevelle,yes,with the original door handles. This bodied was raced as the #4 car of Vern Wilhoight back in the day. Photo is 2006,we're retiring this body back to it's original Chasis. Rear clip is partial Chevelle & 2x3 box. Front clip is front steer Camaro.

This is Dan Baldridge Sr. at Quarts Hill back in 1955.Mom told me I was just a few months old. Maybe thats why I will be starting my 36th race season( Dad was sponsered by "The Little Club Rosemond" and country singer Spade Cooly)
