Title: remember this house car. Post by imracin68j on 12/02/06 at 12:31am My dad ran it once, I think Pettit ran it, Hornaday and Im not sure who else. Im not sure if it ever won any races. From what I remember the car was a mess. Anyone know the year this car ran and who owned it. I do, I'm just wondering if any Bakersfield fans do. ![]() |
Title: Re: remember this Bakersfield house car. Post by lmfan01 on 12/02/06 at 1:39pm The last time i remember it ran was the nat. in 93 . Ron Hornaday drove it and I spun him out in the B main for the last transfer spot. oooppps LOL |
Title: Re: remember this Bakersfield house car. Post by lmfan01 on 12/02/06 at 1:42pm Mike Flanagan owned the car. Don Warren drove it Rick Gifford, I think Berry Bradshaw. I am sure there are more. |
Title: Re: remember this Bakersfield house car. Post by Dirt_Track_Junkie on 12/02/06 at 8:50pm Hey Jimmy are you sure you spun him?? I thought Ron was doing a fine job of spinning all by himself that weekend! |
Title: Re: remember this Bakersfield house car. Post by Bill_Griffin on 12/02/06 at 10:27pm If I remember correctly the race Hornaday ran was a 100 lapper and he didnt want to return so Marcus Mallett drove the second Fifty. |
Title: Re: remember this Bakersfield house car. Post by TIM_BEWLEY on 12/03/06 at 8:59am i talked with ron after the first 50 and he said he had his hands full but was fun |
Title: Re: remember this Bakersfield house car. Post by lmfan01 on 12/03/06 at 6:15pm Yes i spun him He was not to upset because he had to leave anyway. Marcus did drive the car in the second 50 |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by imracin68j on 12/04/06 at 12:44pm The winning most house car in dirt track history. Did this car ever lose? I think every driver they put in it won just about every race. ![]() I forgot to post this pic... Can anyone guess who won this car? |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by mudslinger47 on 12/05/06 at 1:48am PETE won it (he bought about 600 tickets so that prolly helped) |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by hschamp90 on 12/05/06 at 12:59pm In 89' my brother got to drive Doug Forts house car, not sure if it was the same car, but he had a blast until he blew her up. Qualified for the dash 1st time in the car. Trivia question - what was the car# of doug's house car? |

What class did this car compete in? |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by fromthegrandstands on 12/05/06 at 1:44pm hogracer, I believe the correct name for that class was a "California Dirt Car" A class originally created for a cheap OPEN WHEEL class w/ a STARTER. If I remember correctly the original concept was a COMPLETE ready to put on the track car should be less than $10,000.00 w/ STOCK Cast Iron manifolds I believe, and other very strict rules... HOW quick did that change? |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by woodracin13 on 12/05/06 at 1:48pm It was the California Dirt Cars and also I have heard them called the Posse Cars along time ago. Later, Jacky |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by fromthegrandstands on 12/05/06 at 2:09pm (I believe the POSSE cars were the DLM's with the wedge bodies and the HUGE signboards like what they ran at Corona) |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by hogracer3d on 12/05/06 at 2:15pm I remember the Cal Dirt Cars, we went to SMS with the sprint car in about 96 and a couple of them wanted to race with us and the sprint drivers voted not to let them because they were bigger and heavier, boy were they hot. |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by JOHNSON MOTORSPORTS 1 on 12/05/06 at 2:17pm where would u get a body for that ugly thing? lol |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by imracin68j on 12/05/06 at 2:49pm Actually 3 drivers, My dad, Bobby Claborn and XXXXXX went back east to pick up a modified that would be affordable open wheel racing. This was before the IMCA class was really running in CA. Well after the winged sprints outpriced themselves at SMS, they all wanted to use their parts on these modifieds and turned an economical class of cars into another high priced division. Also they made the mistake of thinking one track could keep enough cars to hold the series.. They were wrong. |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by hogracer3d on 12/05/06 at 3:02pm I often wondered why the big block modifieds have never taken hold out west, it seems that we can barely keep our current divisions going strong. |

Darn right we were upset, we spent a pile of money to make it legal for your class after we had cleared it with Doug Fort. That was probably the only real dispute I ever had with Doug. |
Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by RACING-FAN on 12/05/06 at 3:19pm BILL FLOYD MAINTAINED THAT CAR WHEN I WORKED FOR HIM. THERE WAS 110 FITTINGS HOLDING THAT THING TOGETHER. I REMEMBER THEY HAD A DQ BECAUSE THEY CHECKED TIRE PRESSURES ON THE TRACK. WALLY PANKRATZ WON A COUPLE OF TIMES AND BILL ALSO. THAT CAR VISITED THE WINNER CIRCLE ON A REGULAR BASIS. PETE VANIDERSTEIN IN THE #77 WON THE CAR WITH THE WINNINGS FROM A MAIN EVENT. IF MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECT IT WAS IN 1988.....DAVID PETERSON |

It was an open trailer when Danny and the boys took it to get the Dirt car --- then later "Formercrewguy" and myself enclosed it, and YUP it was the first enclosed one at SMS, the guys at Oildale couldn't believe I actually put my race car INSIDE a trailer. It was still second fiddle to a enclosed TRUCK that Billy and mama68 could tell some stories about. |

Title: Re: remember this house car. Post by mama68 on 12/08/06 at 2:25pm Yep, that was quite a trip that year. Danny towed Kirk's car and trailer behind our enclosed car hauler, and before they hit the left turn off 101 to head to watsonville the brakes went out on the hauler, downshifting and emergency braking it, the trailer started wipping behind, and taking out the pickets along the freeway. I remember Kirk saying he looked out the side window, and saw his trailer, almost beside him...I have got say, that I'm sure everyone in that truck was puckering. That was also the all time great fireball show...The official said that all us SMS car were way to loud, and we had to find someway to quiet them down or we couldn't run. They said they didn't care how we did it, just get them quieted down. So we went to K-Mart and bought every bag of steel wool we could find, and the guys stuffed them in the exaust pipes, with a little bit of alluminum stapping to keep it in. Things were great, til the green flag dropped, and all you could see were fireballs shooting out all our exausts, and the officials running around trying to stomp them , and the fires out. Oh well at least we all tried, and they did say, do anything....Thank goid they didn't black flag all of the SMS boys, cause it was a good show, and we ended up winning it. We sure had alot of funny road trips didn't we Capt. How about the portable bar that traveled with us ( one of our sponsors ) and was serving drinks on the freeway, while we were driving, passing drinks out the window to everyone..If we did that today, we'd all be in jail for sure....come to think about it, that kind of sounds like something Cardoza would be doing.... Our car hauler had a bed in it, which is were Billy slept during those trips. you might ask him his opinion of those trips, and where he had to sleep going home |
