Title: ALUMINUM BODIES ( VOTE THREAD )
Post by mama68 on 11/25/06 at 9:42am

I am starting this new thread because after reading the other thread, it seamed to me that things were getting away from the subject.
When we came up with the 3 year rule book, we all agreed, that there might be some fine tuning on things that would make it easier for the racers and or more cost effective.
The PERFORMANCE part of the rule book are set for 3 years, but a thing like the body rule is in no way a performance advantage to anyone, as you still have to weigh 3000 lbs., so it was up for discussion. It is not being suggested that any race team has to or not have to run an aluminum body, they would just have a choice, depending on what makes it easier for them, and maybe more cost effective, as aluminum bodies can be ordered in various colors, and to some degree, easier to repair, and or replace body parts.
Weather or not you would be running an aluminum or steel body, you would still have to conform to the Super Street body guidelines, so as not to get the current LM look.
I am not for or against this modification, and since the E/W is a racer built series, where it was agreed that majority votes decide, I would like this thread to have only car # and vote.  So if you are currently running in the E/W series, or have run or plan to participate in the series in the future, please post your vote...YES...NO...DON'T CARE.

Thanks
Sandie Simkins

What about non e/w races at home tracks.  Will the alum body rule be legal at your home track?    I  think this should be thought about .

Aluminum wouldn't be mandatory, if individuals would rather run steel bodies for what ever reason, they would be allowed to, even if the rule does change.

Jimmy..... We are not stupid; its best that nobody answers your question and we will deal with it later!
BTW Bako has rolled over for SS rule changes last year; its just one more.

Bauer votes YES.

Check the classifieds for a winter special on aluminum bodies!

This change of bodies should include the definition of approved noses and the mounting. I think we should have learned from last season and clean it up now.

Title: Re: ALUMINUM BODIES ( VOTE THREAD )
Post by imracin68j on 11/27/06 at 8:34pm

Jimmy, this process or the EW process for that matter isnt about forcing any track to do anything.  The EW rules have been for the most part voted on by the drivers.  What we do is try to keep the rules cordinated so we have 1, one, uno rule book.  Once the drivers have all voted the rule will then be presented to SMS and Bak maybe with guidelines, who knows but it's not about having anyone have a car thats legal on the EW but not on the local show.  Our goal is to build up the local SS shows not make them less.

I belive it was green steel actually. I just googled pre paint steel sheet metal I believe and several vendors popped up For both steel and alum. I know they make green cause steel roofs are green. If you cant find it let me know and I try it again and PM you the post.

And that body at that time was from a car that was no more than 8 years old.

And now we are expected to run a body that is 30+ years old?

a 30 year old body (even a replica) should qualify you for a nostalgia event.

Question--
The VC chassis, are they using the unibody structure of a camaro, or are they just using the camaro clip with a fabricated mid and rear section?
